Discover Setarz Music Journey

Bardia Sheikholeslami Ghazvini is a versatile and forward-thinking musician, specializing in the setar, a traditional Persian stringed instrument. Born in Tehran, Iran, Bardia began his musical journey at the age of 13, studying at the Maktabkhane Music School of Lotfi, an institution founded by the legendary Mohammad Reza Lotfi, a master of Persian classical music. Bardia immersed himself in the rich heritage of Persian classical music, learning under some of Iran’s finest musicians.

He continued his training under the guidance of Mazyar Younesi, an accomplished Iranian composer, conductor, and pianist, known for his work with orchestral and ensemble projects. Younesi’s expertise in both Western classical music and Iranian traditional music influenced Bardia’s approach, leading him to blend these styles in his performances and compositions .

After emigrating to Slovakia, Bardia expanded his musical horizons by integrating looping technology and electronic effects into his performances, creating a unique fusion of traditional Persian sounds and contemporary improvisation. His performances have captivated audiences at the Fužn Festival in Bratislava, where he played twice, as well as at local cultural events like Dobry Trh and popular cafes such as Next Apache and Café Eleven. His international performances include gigs in Berlin and Madrid, where his fusion of ancient Persian modes with modern electronic techniques has been met with acclaim.

In 2015, Bardia composed the soundtrack for the short animation "Half Babka", directed by Jasmin Elsen. His score was nominated for Best Music in Film at the prestigious Aubagne Film Festival in France, highlighting his talent for creating evocative and original soundscapes.

With a deep respect for his Persian roots and a passion for innovation, Bardia continues to push the boundaries of the setar, offering a fresh perspective on world music to international audiences.
